About us
We are mediators accredited under the National Mediator Accreditation Standards (NMAS) and Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners (FDRP) registered with the Attorney General’s Department. As FDRPs, we are able to issue certificates under Section 60I of the Family Law Act 1975.
Melissa Michael is the founding partner of Eastern Suburbs Mediators. Melissa is a NSW admitted Solicitor, having received her law degree from the University of New South Wales. Melissa practiced as a solicitor at the Legal Aid Commission NSW as well as various community legal centres in Sydney and has particular skills in working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
Always interested in dispute resolution and recognising the shortcomings of the litigation and court system, Melissa trained as a mediator and is accredited with NMAS and registered with the Attorney General's Department as an accredited FDRP. Melissa has experience working in both Sydney and internationally, and is accredited as a mediator in New York City.
Melissa is a member of LEADR and the Institute of Specialist Dispute Resolution (ISDR) and is a Facilitator with Forum Sentencing at Downing Centre, Central and Waverley Local Courts, where she prepares and conducts restorative justice forums with victims and offenders of crime. Melissa has extensive experience working with people in high conflict, and believes passionately in the power of mediation and alternative dispute resolution to help parties come to fair resolutions without the costly and stressful experience of going to court.
