What they do
The family law practice at Legal Aid NSW helps adults and children resolve their family disputes and to achieve safe and workable care arrangements for children.
They provide legal advice and minor assistance, duty services and case representation in commonwealth family law matters, including child support matters, and in state care and protection matters across NSW. The Children’s Legal Service of Legal Aid NSW advises and represents children and young people under 18 involved in criminal cases in the Children’s Courts.
Telephone hotline provides legal advice and info to young people under 18. Operates 9am to midnight weekdays, 24-hour service Friday 9am to Sunday midnight and public holidays. Provide free legal advice, and where possible minor assistance, to people involved in legal matters with the Department of Human Services concerning the welfare of a child or young person.
The Child Support Service offers phone advice and face to face advice at some Legal Aid NSW offices
Free legal advice and referral hotline
Assists women and children who are or have been experiencing domestic violence to obtain effective legal protection through applications for Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders. Also provides referrals to other services such as safe housing, income support, children's needs, family law and counseling.
MensLine Australia is the national telephone and online support, information and referral service for men with family and relationship concerns. The service is available from anywhere in Australia and is staffed by professional counsellors, experienced in men’s issues.
